Fascia is what your gutters hang from and what seals the edge of the roofline against water. Signs Your Soffit or Fascia Needs Replacing

• Soft or rotting fascia board. This is the most common issue, and once wood fascia starts to rot it goes fast. Gutters bolted to rotted fascia will pull away no matter how carefully they were hung.
• Animals getting into the soffit. Squirrels, bats, and birds work their way in through gaps or crumbling soffit panels. Once they are inside they are hard to evict, and the damage they cause compounds.
• Peeling paint on the eaves. Paint peeling off the soffit or fascia usually means moisture, either from inside through poor attic ventilation or from outside through joints that have failed.
• Attic that runs too hot or too damp. If your attic bakes in summer or shows moisture in winter, the soffit venting may be blocked, missing, or undersized. Good intake ventilation through the soffit adds years to your shingles.
• Storm damage. Hail and wind tear up soffit and fascia, and that damage belongs in most storm insurance claims. We document it and claim it alongside any roof damage.

What We Install

We install aluminum and vinyl soffit panels along with aluminum fascia cover over the existing fascia boards, or over new boards when the old ones need replacing. Vented soffit panels supply the air intake your roofing system needs to breathe. We match profiles and colors to your existing exterior where we can, or fold the work into a full exterior re-cladding project.

Capping new or existing boards with aluminum fascia is the standard approach. If the fascia boards themselves have rotted through, we replace the boards first, then cap them. Wrapping a cap over rotted wood hides the problem instead of fixing it, and it creates a warranty headache down the road. We do not do it that way.

What actually happens if I leave rotted fascia alone?

It does not stay contained. Rotted fascia loses its grip on the gutters, so the gutters sag and overflow, which dumps water right at the foundation. The rot also spreads into the roof decking behind it and into the soffit beside it, turning a board-level fix into a structural one. Catching it early is the difference between replacing a length of trim and rebuilding part of the eave.

Aluminum or vinyl soffit, which is better for my house?

Both perform well in Northeast Ohio, and the right pick depends on the situation. Aluminum is more rigid and holds up better to impact and heat, which suits exposed, sunny eaves. Vinyl costs less and resists moisture without any worry of corrosion, which suits shaded or damp areas. Why does my soffit need vents at all?

Vented soffit is the intake half of your roof’s ventilation system. Air enters low through the soffit, rises as it warms, and exits high through ridge or roof vents, which carries heat and moisture out of the attic. Block or skip that intake and the attic traps heat in summer and moisture in winter, both of which shorten shingle life and can lead to mold. Solid soffit looks the same from the ground but starves the roof of airflow.

What is the difference between soffit and fascia?

Fascia is the vertical board along the roof edge that your gutters attach to. Soffit is the horizontal underside of the overhang. Together they finish the roofline and, when soffit is vented, ventilate the attic.

Is soffit and fascia covered by insurance?

Often, yes, when the damage is storm-related. Wind and hail can tear or dent fascia and soffit, and it is frequently included in the same claim as roof damage. We document it for your adjuster.
